May my cry come before you, Lord; give me understanding according to your word. May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise.
– Psalm 119:169-170 (NIV)
Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Author of Making Sense of the Bible
How often do you pray before you read the Scripture? The Psalmist gives us a picture of someone who is not leaning upon their own understanding, but upon the LORD who opens minds and hearts. If you are trusting in what you can figure out, you are limited, for God has power and strength that transcends our current situation. So taking the Psalmist’s approach of prayer with Scripture to focus upon God’s promises can give us a pathway to get through our challenging situations.
