Samaritan’s Purse is airlifting critical relief supplies to Haiti after a massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake, while also rushing an Emergency Field Hospital to Jackson, Mississippi, after a staggering surge in COVID-19 cases. Donate to HaitiThe earthquake slammed the southwestern part of Haiti yesterday. Hundreds have already been reported dead, many more are homeless and are searching for loved ones after numerous buildings and other structures collapsed. In Mississippi, the state's healthcare system is on the brink of collapse as hospitals are overwhelmed by coronavirus patients. Our DC-8 cargo plane left Greensboro, North Carolina, earlier today for Haiti carrying shelter material, water filtration units, and emergency medical supplies. At the request of the World Health Organization, we are staging a level 2 mobile trauma unit in expectation of casualties that could number in the thousands. If needed, a second airlift will transport an Emergency Field Hospital, surgical teams, and other medical personnel to serve patients.  Disaster Relief trucks carrying medical equipment and a specialized respiratory care unit also departed North Carolina this morning for Mississippi. The state averaged nearly 2,700 new COVID-19 cases per day over the past week. Over 200 patients in the state are being held in emergency room beds, waiting for ICU beds to open up.
