This Week At Crossroads

Pastor's Corner

The mustard seed becomes a great shrub that shelters the birds, recalling ancient images of the tree of life. We’d expect a cedar or a sequoia, but Jesus finds the power of God better imaged in a tiny, no-account seed. It’s not the way we expect divine activity to look. Yet the tree of life is here, in the cross around which we gather, the tree into which we are grafted through baptism, the true vine that nourishes us with its fruit in the cup we share. It may not appear all that impressive, but while nobody’s looking it grows with a power beyond our understanding.

SCRIPTURE:
Ezekiel 17:22-24, Psalm 92:1-4, 12-15, 2 Corinthians 5:6-17,  Mark 4:26-34

WORSHIP MUSIC:

"Father, I Adore You"
"Come Thou Font"

"You are the Vine"

JOIN US IN-PERSON OR ONLINE Sunday at 9:15am

Pastor Jacqui Pagel will be joining us for worship and preaching the good news for us this coming week! Pr. Jacqui is an Assistant to the Bishop of the Grand Canyon Synod of the ELCA. She likes to say she is responsible for leadership development in our synod. She walks with people at all levels in their faith journey; youth, outdoor ministries, Lutheran Campus Ministry, Young Adults in Global mission, Diakonia, Wisdom Keepers, Simon’s Project and regular Jesus loving people at our worshipping sites. Any and all questions about becoming a pastor or a deacon, give her a call.
Pr. Jacqui served Trinity Lutheran Church in Phoenix for almost 10 years and started with Bishop Deborah January 2019. She is a proud Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary graduate class of 2008, and thankful to have received her undergraduate degrees from Arizona State University, Women’s Studies B.S. and Broadcast Journalism B.A. She resides in Chandler with her husband Larry and their three children.

MEET GOD
We had a great day trip to St. Anthony's Greek Monastery and learned a lot about our siblings in faith in the Greek Orthodox Church.  We had such a great time that we are going to plan another Day Trip for the month of July! STAY TUNED!
MEET FRIENDS

More than ever, politics seem to be driven by discord. People sitting together in pews every Sunday feel like strangers and loved ones at the dinner table feel like enemies. Toxic political dialogue, hate-filled rants on social media, and agenda-driven news stories have become the new norm. But it doesn't have to be this way.

In I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening), two working moms from opposite ends of the political spectrum teach us that politics don't have to divide us. Instead, we can bring the same care and respect to policy discussions that we bring to the rest of our lives.

Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers, co-hosts of Pantsuit Politics, recently named an Apple Podcasts Show of the Year, give you all of the tools you need to:

  • Respect the dignity of every person
  • Recognize that issues are nuanced and can't be reduced to political talking points
  • Listen in order to understand
  • Lead with grace and patience

Join us for this discussion as we explore together with the authors that people from opposing political perspectives truly can have calm, grace-filled conversations with one another.

Women of Grace is a service outreach of Crossroads Lutheran Church. We meet every Wednesday from 10am-1:30pm at The Station Coffee Co in Florence, AZ. We begin with a time of fellowship time and a short devotion. Then we get busy making quilts for the Hope Women’s Center in Coolidge, AZ, and for the Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix, AZ. In addition to the quilts, we also make sleeping mats for the homeless made from recycled plastic grocery bags. We also serve lunch to 30-40 women on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Hope Women’s Center.

We welcome anyone to come and join us for all or part of our Wednesday gatherings. We always say that if you can tie your shoes or use scissors, we can put you to work!!!If

We appreciate any donation of used denim jeans of any color or khaki pants to use for quilts. Also cotton or flannel sheets for the backs of the quilts. Stains and rips don’t matter, either!
