For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
– 1 Timothy 4:4-5 (NIV)
Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Author of Making Sense of the Bible
This flies in the face of beliefs that say that spiritual things are good while material things (the world around us) is bad. When God looked upon His creation on the seventh day, He said it was “very good”. We are called to consecrate, or set apart, God’s creation for His purposes and not our own. This understanding will not just affect our view of food; it will also guide our prayers and activity toward every realm of life. Nothing is beyond His ability to restore back to its original goodness.
