Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
– Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)
Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Author of Making Sense of the Bible
Isaiah was facing a time when Israel was divided by civil war and was about to be conquered by Assyria. Yet Isaiah can speak of having strength renewed and endurance that will carry the people of God through all of the pain that they are about to face. This tells us that our perspective can change even when our circumstance won’t change at all. When we get an eternal understanding, we are filled with strength for all that a fallen world brings to us.
