Grace and peace! I pray that the Twelve Days of Christmas have been a time of blessing for you and your family. This Sunday, our celebration will culminate with the coming of the Magi with their hearts, heads and knees bowed in worship before the child Jesus offering their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. When I read this account, I'm reminded that these spiritual seekers searched for Jesus, bowed in worship before Jesus, offered Jesus their gifts, and then departed a different way (after being warned in a dream not to return to Herod who wanted to kill the Christ child).
Likewise, when we gather on the Lord's Day to bow in worship before our Savior our lives are transformed, and we "depart in a different way," empowered by the Holy Spirit to go forth into the world to walk in the good works that our Father in heaven has ordained for us to walk in from the foundation of the world (Ephesians 2:10). May the inexpressible joy of the Holy Spirit fill your life as we gather for worship this Sunday!
Your servant in Christ,
The Rev. Dean F. Schultz - Christ the Redeemer Church in Springfield, VA
