God is Love...Love is God...
By Dr. Jim Kok, Crystal Cathedral Pastor
"And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
A friendly smile, a warm greeting - both are acts of loving-kindness and simple expressions of love. Since they are love, these expressions touch others' hearts with God. Loving-kindness is the spirit of God flowing out of us. Offering helpfulness, friendliness, or encouragement is letting the love of Jesus work through our lives. Such acts always heal, lift spirits, and help others to feel better.
Jeremy Vance spent four weeks in total medical isolation while receiving a bone marrow transplant. Later someone asked him, "Where was God in that lonely four weeks?"
Jeremy answered, "He was there when you showed up, even though you were completely covered with a gown, a mask, and gloves." A simple visit was experienced as a touch of God's love.
In a cardiac research center in New Jersey a while back, a research team checking miles of EKG tapes noticed islands of normal, healthy heartbeats amidst the abnormal ones. They wondered what was happening in the patients' lives at the time their heartbeats were normal. In all instances, they found that someone had been present - a nurse, a doctor, a visitor, or even a member of the maintenance staff. The conclusion was that the presence of another human triggered healthful moments.
We carry the healing spirit of God with us. The Spirit of Jesus is in us. Our presence and our caring can sprinkle healing love into and onto others wherever we go.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to carry your healing love, sharing it with others everywhere I go. Amen.
