Nearer My God: John 3:16

When I was younger, like a lot of people, I grew away from my faith and stopped attending church.

That all changed when I was invited to attend a Tuesday night service at Hanover College in Indiana at 18.

Although church was a requirement growing up, it wasn't until I heard my friends at Hanover College speak about their personal relationships with God - something I had never experienced but felt drawn towards - that I began my own journey to find my faith.

As my Freshman year of college was coming to an end I joined some friends on a road trip to a Theological Seminary. I sat on a hillside surrounded by believers amid preaching and music and for the first time in my life, I truly heard the words of John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he sent his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Once the music stopped I found a volunteer counselor and prayed to receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. A decision that changed my life forever. I was born again.

Since that moment faith has been a central part of my life and today I am not afraid to say I am a Christian, conservative, and a Republican, in that order.

Today, America lacks leadership that is guided by its belief in God. Instead, we have leadership that attacks the religious principles our nation was built on and puts their self-interests over those of the American people.

That’s why I am focused on bringing back humility and faith to our nation's capital. Will you join me in this endeavor?
