Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska was an unknown girl from a poor Polish family. She had only three years of basic education, but from the tender age of seven she had a deep yearning to become a nun. When her entry into the convent was documented in 1924, the Mother General reported that she was "no one special."

She zealously went about her duties, she faithfully observed all the religious rules, she was recollected and kept silent, all the while being natural, cheerful, full of kindness and of unselfish love of neighbor." It was to this "unremarkable" young woman that Jesus appeared. During the last four years of her life, He ordered her to write a diary, and entrusted to her His message of Divine Mercy. She was to become the "Apostle of Divine Mercy" to the entire world. Now, the Church recognizes Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska not only as a saint, but as one of the most outstanding mystics in the history of the Catholic Church. |
