Dear Peter, “With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds.” I love this quote from President Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address, and I often think of it as I pass his statue in the Lincoln Bay at the Cathedral. They’re challenging words, aren’t they? Malice toward none and charity for all is a very high calling. Yet it’s vital if we’re going to tell the truth in love and heal the soul of our nation. As I write to you today, we’re less than 10 days away from the start of a new fiscal year at your Cathedral—another year to pursue the mission of serving our nation’s needs.
